STARTING & LOADING A PENNANT:

INTRO SCREEN:

This guide will show you how to quickly start a Pennant season. Don't worry about most the option screens for now, they can be adjusted later from the Pennant Main Menu (no need to post all the information twice). So just follow the instructions below, then at the end click OK on the staff & roster menu and the game will ask if you're happy with everything (Yes/No). Pick Yes. The game will tell you more misc info and you will see a cartoon news program, then the season will begin.

The two options here are Begin New Pennant, Load Pennant

EDIT LEAGUES

1. After you choose Begin New Pennant, you can edit the leagues to have the teams you want. At the bottom are custom teams that you can make & import from the "Arrange" section. You can add up to 4 custom teams to the league!

On the left hand side the options are:

- Confirm
- Change Teams
- Delete Team (each league must have at least 6 teams)
- Cancel Changes

2. Confirm then (on the next screen) choose the team you want to play as.

3. You will now see the Pennant Settings...

SELECT COACHES & SCOUTS:

This is the screen where you can make various adjustments to your roster and coaches. The only one we're going to adjust right now is the 'Coaches & Scouts' because this can't be changed after a season starts. The rest of the options can be adjusted later in the Main Menu...

OK
a. Coaches (and scouts)
b. Pitchers
c. Hitters
d. Put in original character (from Success mode)
e. Training
f. Player Roles, Rotation, Lineups & Team Strategy
g. Edit Uniform/Face/Stance (2013 version: ???)
h. See Special Skills (2013 version: Edit Uniform/Face/Stance)

* AFTER YOU MODIFY YOUR COACHES & SCOUTS JUST CLICK THE TOP OPTION 'OK' THEN THE LEFT OPTION "YES" TO CONFIRM. NOW CLICK THROUGH SEVERAL SCREENS (Start button makes this go faster) UNTIL THE SEASON STARTS AND YOU'RE BROUGHT TO THE PENNANT MAIN MENU PAGE. FROM THERE YOU CAN ADJUST ALL THE OPTIONS AND BE SURE TO SAVE BEFORE QUITTING.

A. SELECT COACHES:

Options on Left: OK, Coaches, Scouts

(First keep in mind that now is the only chance you have to change coaches and scouts until the next offseason)

When you select Coaches, you will be able to change your staff. The better guys are more expensive, obviously. The default ones are usually kinda crappy so definitely change them. From top to bottom they are the

  • Hitting Coach
  • Defense/Running Coach
  • PItching Coach

You will see 2 letter grades under their name. The first letter is Teaching Ability. The higher the letter, the faster your players will grow. The second letter is Analyzing Ability. The higher grade you have, the easier it will be for coach to see what type of player (late bloomer, early bloomer, etc) a player is. (Personally I would say teaching is much more important than analyzing.)

To the right of the coach's photo, you will see 3 boxes: his specialized field (for example for a hitting coach it's either Contact Type or Power Type), his yearly salary, and number of years with your team. To the right of the 3 boxes is the special skill(s) this coach has. He can pass this on to a player under the Training menu.

For the Pitching Coach, there is one more box to the right of the special skills. This is the Pitches box. It lists the pitches he is good at, and if your players have these same pitches they will level up those pitches faster, and they can teach those particular pitches to pitchers in spring training.

A. SELECT SCOUTS:

Note: For more details check out our detailed Draft Scout and International Scout walk-throughs.

You have a Draft Scout, and an International Scout. They each have 2 letter grades:

  • Discovery (left): The higher the grade, the faster and more players he will find.
  • Investigation (right): The higher the letter, the more accurate his assessment of the player will be.

These are both pretty important IMO because the scout might report a guy to have ratings of "DDCCC" but if his investigation grade is low those attributes might be way off when you finally acquire the player.

To the right are 3 boxes:

  • Area of specialty: Is he good at finding pitchers, catchers, high schoolers, university students, etc, etc.
  • Yearly salary
  • Number of years on your team.
